New Year's Eve on the Villa's beach

Between December 28 and January 2, the year turns here: a white-sand freshwater beach, the piracaia fish roast at the river's edge, a circle of candles on the sand — and no crowds. Alter do Chão fills up for the New Year; the Villa is 1h30 upriver by boat, between two protected reserves.

How the year turns here

No stage, no fireworks, no queue: New Year's Eve here belongs to the house. Fish roasted on banana leaves, a circle around the fire, a river swim on the first morning of the year.

The piracaia on the 31st

The New Year's Eve dinner is the house ritual: river fish roasted on the sand, by candlelight, served in a circle by the team who lives here.

The beach on day one

White sand, crystal-clear freshwater, and no mosquitoes. The first swim of the year is a few steps from your bungalow.

Far from the crowds

Alter do Chão draws tens of thousands for the New Year. Close enough to reach; far enough to fall asleep to the sound of the river.

How it works

  1. 01

    Arriving via Alter do Chão

Fly to Santarém (STM), transfer to Alter do Chão, then 1h30 by speedboat up the Arapiuns. The group's boat is arranged as part of the package.

  2. 02

    The days

Beach, canoeing in the flooded forest, the Samaúma trail, workshops with the river communities — the itinerary is drawn up with your group, at its own pace.

  3. 03

    The night of the 31st

Piracaia on the sand and a circle on the beach. The new year arrives to the sound of the river, not a sound system.

Questions from people planning the trip

  1. How much does New Year's Eve at Villa Arapiuns cost?

Pricing is per group: it depends on the number of guests and nights, and the rate drops as the group grows. From 15 guests, the Villa closes for exclusive use. Message us on WhatsApp with your group size and dates.

  2. What's the minimum stay?

For the New Year window we work with 4–5 night packages, between December 28 and January 2.

  3. Is there a party? Fireworks?

Not the city kind. The night of the 31st has the piracaia — fish roasted on the sand by candlelight — and a circle on the beach. No stage and no fireworks: the sky here does its own part.

  4. Are there mosquitoes?

The Villa's beach is freshwater and white sand, with no mosquitoes. At New Year the Arapiuns is in its dry season, with the river low and the beaches at their fullest.

  5. How do I get there from abroad?

Fly to Santarém (STM) — connections from São Paulo, direct flights from Brasília, Belém and Manaus — then transfer to Alter do Chão and 1h30 by boat to the Villa. The trip upriver is where the journey really begins.

  6. Can we book the whole Villa?

Yes. From 15 guests your group has exclusive use: thirteen bungalows for up to 26 guests, the pavilion, the hammock grove and the beach, with no one else on the property.
