What there is to do here

Trails, canoe, beach and meeting the river communities. On lodge stays, excursions are arranged separately; in the packages, they come with the itinerary.

Lago Azul
A short trail to a hidden lagoon, canoe and a swim in still water.

The tucuxi dolphins
The dolphins of the Arapiuns are the tucuxi — smaller than the pink ones, and known for coming close to the canoe.

The river has two seasons

There is no bad time to come — there are two different landscapes, and they change what you can do. The water is warm and clear in both.

High water

January to July

The river rises and moves into the forest. The igapós appear — flooded woodland — and the canoe goes right through them, between the treetops, where the rest of the year you would be walking.

Low water

August to December

The water draws back and the beaches appear: banks of white sand that did not exist six months earlier, and that will vanish again when the river rises.

The Arapiuns is warm all year round. What changes between the seasons is the landscape, not the climate.
